Capoeira nourishes you mind, body, spirit and soul in a way that is so complete, you can’t even begin to imagine. In less than a year I have meet so many beautiful people, I’m learning to be a more graceful martial artist and to play a range of ancestral instruments. I’ve never experienced any martial art or sport that can leave you feeling so fulfilled. The art is so versatile you can find your own style no matter what age, size or level of ability. I thank Sabu for proving a class that is so welcoming and open and I thank everyone for sharing their knowledge and experiences so freely. It’s not easy though, SERIOUS TINGS, this man doesn’t mess about chaaa!! Love you Sabu ;-)

Capoeira Regional is the type of capoeira that most of the "outside" world is familiar with and that's understandable because that is the only style of capoeira that I'd seen before I took it up myself. I started with Regional and I really do enjoy it but Capoeira Angola really sends me. Even though I'm South London born and bred, when I play (or try to play) I feel like I'm on par with the slaves and ex-slaves who started playing in places like Salvador and beyond. The roda is a very important emotional outlet for me. It's a spiritual thing too and it's very hard to put it into words.

Sabu is a serious man, capoeirista and mestre with a vision we all believe in. I want to send blessings to you Sabu on your journeys in Brazil: for you to experience all you must whilst out there. At this time - during our first break from capoeira, we can all sit back and appreciate just what you do for us. An inspiration and role model to us all. Truly one of the many great ancestors re-born. Get home safe brother.

In this day and age, it is very easy to get caught up in the vicious cycle of just going to work, coming home sorting out the bills and other responsbilities so in effect you are just existing. The whole collective experience of Capoeira, i.e. singing, dancing, socialising together with the energy of the group just transmutes any negativity and makes me feel alive and inside I'm laughing, smiling.....I'm happy. With regards to age, I'm probably the most senior in the group and I'm under no illusions in knowing that the body deteriorates with age but I do feel young and I feel very grateful and fortunate to be able to participate. My attitude is to just live for the day and that is thanks to capoeira.

It was a real privilege to meet Mestre Celso recently. He is a true gentleman, really down too earth and full of humour too. Also, I have got to say thanks to Sabu for his quite encouragement as there have been times when I felt that it was getting a little too much. Also, it's great to be part of such a special group of people. It just lifts me.

I think Capoeira is amaizing. I did 1 session with Sabu and i think this guy used to train in the army or something because he is militant with the training. I enjoyed it very much even though my body was useless for the following 2days. Nuff luv for Sabu and all the other Capoeira guys. keep it up

I would like to thank Sabu and everyone in my group for embracing me and allowing me to become part of something so special. Capoeira means everything to me and I could not imagine my life without it. Training is tough, physically and mentally, and can leave me exhausted but every minute is precious. Though I am no acrobat and have little experience in martial arts, pushing myself through the training has taught me about grace and strength. The energy and positivity I feel at Capoeira is unparalleled - no two Capoeiristas move the same, it is up to you to bring your own creativity to the roda, there are no limits. Nor have I experienced such a feeling of togetherness and encouragement than when practicing with my group. For me Capoeira is a journey of expression and self discovery - a journey which has only just begun.

What I like about Sabu's class is that he watches from a distance and gives you some space, letting you experiment and "find your way." He allows you to flow and develop an instinct for it plus encouragement and constructive criticism is always given. At other martial arts clubs including capoeira, some instructors get really technical, lecturing, always picking you up on minor details and saying you can't do this or that and although there's nothing wrong with that, it can stop you being yourself and restrict any creativity. I particularly like Thursdays becausethe instruments come out and everyone is singing. Half the time I don't know what I'm singing about but I feel that it all helps to bring harmony and unity to the group. This is great because in other places, I've seen people train together but rarely talk to eachother so cliques and other barriers are created. Bisao

I’ve been doing Capoeira for about 6 months now and only wish I had started earlier. Capoeira involves balance, rhythm, flexibility, control, expression and culture, all of which gives me the platform to explore and challenge myself both mentally and physically. I can’t imagine life without Capoeira as it now feels like a part of me.

I started training capoeira after watching a movie called "only the strong" capoeira is more then just a dance its a fightig style with over 500's of years of history behind it. For me it provides me with the ability to release some chakra and do some a sureal movements. What I enjoy the most about capoeira is the energy from trainging with a group andcommunication in the roda. I like to incoperate my own learnt movements from youtube into my training.

I have been training for 7 months in capoeira and in that time i have become a better martial artis than in all the years doing different styles. Their is no limit to the combinations and moves of capoeira, only your mental creative or lack of it can limit your ability. Capoeira is deadly there are no silly little jabs or taps as it was never a sport or self-defence technique, for it was borne out of slavery. because if the African slave had to fright there slave master thay would have to takeout that person befor thay could call for help ( FOR THAT WOULD MEAN DEATH)

Capoeira means a lot to me and after four months training I have grown to love it.
The training is tough and pushes me to a new level of fitness. Creative energy is stimulated when I put new moves together dodging kicks and sweeps.
Our group is family: we train together, sing together and party together. Positive people all working together towards a positive mission means growth and healing for us all. Caps has opened the door to a new culture of African people that I want to know. Learning the drums or berimbau, we clap, sing and jenga in the roda.
We all now hold so much in common due to Caps and as friends join they can now share in the journey. Sun shining we meet just to get down with Caps in the park. We only need a tambourine and the rhythm takes us to new places. Inspiration to travel and meet other capoeirists, go back to its source and learn more secrets from the mestre.

I've been practising martial arts for most of my life, some 25 years having taught Taekwondo and Kung Fu. I'd heard of capoeira even back then but it wasn't taught in this country at that time. I expect the time wasn't right. It's been a long wait! Capoeira is probably the most physically challenging martial art that I've ever done plus the music, history and freedom of expression that goes along with it really touches my soul. Hard as it is and at my ripe old age, I love every minute of the training and most importantly it is making me a better martial artist. Thanks Sabu.
